Greetings from Burke, Virginia!
We are Kirk and Mary Streitmater and our family lives in Burke, VA. Kirk graduated from DTS as part of the MACL program in 2021. We host DTS students that attend local hybrid classes (two to three times in a semester) and made some wonderful friends from California to New York. We started offering our home when Kirk realized some students paid for hotel rooms or even slept in their cars to save money.
To maximize student options, we've assembled a list of local church families (many with empty nest homes) who are willing to host students. This offer assumes volunteer families have an available clean bedroom and willing to host students (and sometimes their families) at no cost. When women are looking for an option, Mary normally makes contact with them so that they have a friendly voice to coordinate the details. We’ve had some visitors that just needed a place to sleep and others that were happy to share a meal (if we had something to share) and often be subjected to our grandson Percy's questions and comments.
The form below is designed to capture key personal and travel details for semester classes. Please fill it out and we'll check on available hosts! If you don't hear back from anyone in 2 - 3 days, please send us a text. If you have any questions, please contact/text Kirk at 571-577-7517 or Mary at 703-975-5882.
We expect that local families have an adult of the same sex that is present in the home during your stay. Once a connection is made, DTS students and local families will need to work out all the visit details. If schedule conflicts come up later (on either side), we are happy to work other options. Please be courteous in keeping each other informed on plans and any changes to plans.
